Interview with Raymond

JM: How long was your sentencing for?
Raymond: 1 year

JM: Did you spend time in a holding cell after your sentencing? If so, what was that like? If you didn't where did they they take you instead?
Raymond: Between the arrest and going before the comissioner I was in county for three weeks. Pretty standard jail time. Sitting around waiting, not knowing what's going to happen.

If you or someone you know will be spending some time in Solano State Prison, you might have questions about what you can expect while you are there. Going to prison can be a scary experience, and each facility has its own unique environment. While we can't promise that serving prison time will be easy, having the right information can help you prepare for the experience.

We have interviewed former inmates of Solano State, who have shared tips and information about what really goes on behind those locked doors. You can access these interviews by clicking on links to the left. Take a few minutes to read their stories, so you can get a glimpse into what life is really like inside Solano State Prison.

Meals
Solano State Prison provides three meals per day to inmates. Breakfast is usually hot, followed by a bagged lunch and a hot dinner. The food is rated as mediocre, being 6 out of 10 on a good day. One meal that is a least favorite is a square of fish served with oily bread on Fridays.

Breakfast is described as the best meal, with pancakes and French toast being favorites. The prison does not provide additional snacks to inmates, but if you have money on your books you can buy them from the canteen.

Passing the Time
One of the biggest challenges of serving time is fighting off boredom. Solano State Prison provides facilities such as pull up bars, handball, basketball, TV, cards and other games. They also provide church services on a regular basis. Inmates are able to go outside daily for long stretches of time. Former inmates report it was easy to stay in shape while serving time in this prison.

Medications
Solano State Prison provides necessary meds to inmates. It has also been reported that if you look for illegal drugs in this facility you will find them. Just be aware that if you are caught abusing any drugs during your incarceration, you will have 90 days added to your sentence.

Unless you like spending time in prison, you should try to keep your nose clean and use only the medications that are legally given to you by the prison medical staff.
